AHA Survey: Patients' Concerns About Commercial Insurer Barriers to Care

- 62% of patients report their household has experienced at least one insurance coverage-related barrier in the past two years.
- 43% of those patients report their health has gotten worse as a result.
- 55% of patients find health insurance companies responsible for the health care roadblocks they have experienced.
- 83% of patients agree that their health care providers know the best treatment for them and should be the one to make treatment decisions, not their insurance company.
- 86% of patients agree there needs to be more transparency from health insurance companies on which services, medications require pre-approval and policies, criteria used to grant that approval.
