- In 2013, average out-of-pocket spending was 41% of Social Security income
- Medicare beneficiaries' spending is projected to rise to 50% of SS income in 2030
- Half spent at least 14% of total income on out-of-pocket costs in 2013
- 36% spent at least 20% of their total income on out-of-pocket costs in 2013
- Half with incomes below 20,000 spent at least 20% on out-of-pocket costs in 2013
- By 2030, 42% are projected to spend at least 20% of total income on OOP costs
